The goal of this project was to first create forms of alternating figure grounds, and then use those forms to develop patterns. I started by choosing an image of a scanned tool to trace. I decided on the staple gun because staple guns play a part in some of my favorite recreational hobbies. I digitally traced the staple gun scan in Adobe Illustrator, then I produced an image presenting alternating figure ground. Next, I used Adobe InDesign to form multiple different patterns, and used Adobe Illustrator to experiment with colors. My inspiration for colors comes from multiple different album covers, skin tones, flamingos, pink lemonade, and nautical themes. Finally, I applied my design to a variety of Photoshop mockups.
